Villa Sbertoli

Villa Sbertoli was built by the wealthy merchant Agostino Sbertoli in the early 19th century. The villa is part of a healthcare complex that he founded for his son. It is a beautiful urbex or urban location to explore.

When Agostino had a son which was mentally ill, he devoted his entire life to caring for his son. He founded a home for psychiatry next to his house. After his death he donated all his money to this home that grew into a huge complex around 1868. The complex owes its name to its founder.

The location was occupied during the Second World War by the Germans who made it a prison for political prisoners. After the war it came into the possession of the Italian government. After the reforms of the care system it was abandoned. It has now been abandoned for 30 years.

Nowadays the complex is dilapidated and only the villa and a school are left. The rest of the buildings have been bricked up to prevent vandalism. When we were there, a group of local youth was working on a barbecue. Because the complex is quite large, they have shown us the highlights.

The most beautiful thing is of course the building of the founder himself. What I also liked very much was the school. Fortunately, the front door was just open so that we could easily enter.

The group also told us that a lot of vandalism takes place. There used to be a piano in the large hall. This has recently been thrown down through the window. Unfortunately, I have not been able to record these on the sensitive plate. We also came across something that looks like a prison. I really can not imagine whether this is actually the case. The doors we had a lot of prison doors.
